Falls Church, Virginia: Fighter Jet in Pennies
In 2008 a miniature fiberglass F-14 was covered in 14,000 pennies as part of a community art project in Crystal City, VA. It was purchased by a company that moved to Falls Church, taking the plane with them. Its official name is "Pennies from Heaven," by artist Courtney Stevens Hengerer.

- From Falls Church drive east on Hwy 7/E. Broad St. for about a mile. Turn right at the stoplight onto S. Roosevelt St. You'll see two large white office buildings ahead, on the left. Turn left at the stoplight onto Hillwood Ave., then right into the office buildings parking lot. The jet is in the open-air plaza between the buildings, nestled among the shrubbery.

The fighter jet statue is still there, minus a few dollars worth of pennies at the base from people looking to steal a good luck charm.

When you need to take a break/brake from traffic, there's art and roadside kitsch tucked between the two office towers at Seven Corners, one of northern Virginia's most despised intersections. The shiny pennies near the belly of the plane show that a caring guardian replaces its pennies as they deteriorate or fall off. The ones at the bottom are so weathered that they are nearly unrecognizable as coins.
