Chelan, Washington: Frankenstein Rock

A big, vertical rock painted to look like the green head of Frankenstein's monster. The paint is badly weathered.

US Hwy 97 ALT, Chelan, WA
12.5 miles north of Entiat, or six miles south of Chelan. Just off the highway, on the west side of US Hwy 97 ALT. The rock faces south so its easy to see heading north, and almost impossible to see heading south. Park on the shoulder. Busy highway. Watch out for rattlesnakes.

Frankenstein Rock.

Frankenstein Rock

A massive natural rock that has been painted to look like the Frankenstein monster. It was here when I got here in 1976, but it had entirely black paint then. About 10 years ago someone "touched it up" with some green paint, but the black is showing back through. A pretty funny-looking rock.
