Fremont, California: Mini-Forest of Crate-Bound Oak Trees
When a nursery closed in the 1960s, its oak tree saplings were left in their wooded crates. Now they're oak trees, the nursery is a city park, and the crates have been left in place.

The trees are at the back of the property, behind a small corporation yard. There are maybe 15-20 trees.

California Nursery Historical Park was originally a thriving nursery from 1865 up to the 1960s. It is now a city park. The rose garden is nice in season, but the curiosity worth seeing is an avenue of "boxed" oak trees. When the nursery went out of business, trees still in their wooden crates were abandoned and took root where they stood. The boxes have been enlarged to support the now full-sized oaks. It's a weirdly delightful sight.
