I remember Storytown like it was yesterday. My parents took me and my brother there several times in the the mid-1960s when we visited my grandparents in Troy. I particularly remember the Old Woman in the Shoe. Great bygone days!
[Steve Romano, 03/04/2023]I remember going to Storytown several times during my childhood. My clearest remembrance is of Jonah and the Whale. That was one big blue whale, and somewhere I have a picture of my brother and I standing in his mouth. We also visited a western-themed attraction during those same years, but I no longer recall its name. Those were fun, family-oriented vacations, often camping and taking day trips.
[Jeanne, 01/25/2015]Storytown, now The Great Escape, was a major attraction for us Vermonters. Many of the old Story time figures have vanished to make room for Fast Rides. Some have been recovered but have lost their atmosphere amongst the amusement park rides. Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and a few more remain while Jack and Jill look pretty lame since my visit in the 1990s.
[Tim Foley, 03/26/2002]Storytown opened in the early 1950s and closed in 1983. The statues were created by Jack Binder (1903-1986) who was also the cartoonist who drew Mary Marvel, little sister of Captain Marvel.
