Codell, Kansas: Cyclone Day Memorial
A 15-foot-tall twister memorial stands in a tiny town that was smashed by tornadoes for three straight years on the same day. Visit on May 20 if you dare.

- I-70 exit 159. Drive north on US Hwy 183 for 23.5 miles. Turn right at the blinker light toward Lincoln onto KS-18. Drive east 7.5 miles. Turn right onto 24 Rd. Drive south three-quarters of a mile into Codell, which is a tiny town. Turn left onto 4th St. Drive one block. You'll see the tornado on the right.

The 15-foot-tall twister of metal strips was made by Tobias Flores and Danielle Robinson, faculty members at Fort Hays State University. It was dedicated on the 100th anniversary of the third tornado, which killed one-tenth of the town's population of 100 people.
