Headquarters of the Iditarod Trail Race, the ultimate dog sled race in the world. 1,049 miles of mushing from Willow to Nome in the dead of winter. The race commemorates the dog sled run to provide life saving diphtheria insulin to the community of Nome in 1925. There is a small, free museum and gift shop. In the summer season, for a small fee, dogs pull an ATV around a track that provides the rider with an idea of the power of the dogs.
