Visitor Tips and News About Cerro Gordo Ghost Town
Reports and tips from RoadsideAmerica.com visitors and Roadside America mobile tipsters. Some tips may not be verified. Submit your own tip.
This 1800s silver mine had a sprawling mini town until it went dry in the 1930s. The silver pulled out of this town helped build LA into the affluent city that it is today. No mine tours, but you can tour the town, and there is a hotel being rebuilt. I recommend visiting with an SUV or elevated car (e.g. Subaru). To get there, you travel an eight-mile dirt road -- not for the faint of heart, with some steep grades and a 4000+ foot elevation gain.
