An eight-foot-tall bronze statue of jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown (1930-1956) stands at the entrance to Kirkwood Park. A Wilmington native, Brown was one of the greatest bebop jazz performers and composers of his time when died in a car crash at the age of 25.
