Awakon Park

The walking path in the park is on the site of the ruins of the American Wood Rim Factory. Many sculptures, including the World's Largest Steering Wheel. The park entrance is about a mile east of the George Washington statue.

This outdoor sculpture park showcases the impressive metal artwork of Tom Moran, who works just down the street.

Awakon Park

Due to vandalism and homeless squatters living inside the sculptures, the owner of this park has shut it down and is in the processing of selling off the sculptures. The town of Onaway can't have anything nice due to the very disrespectful residents.

Sculptor Tom Moran told us that he will gradually clean up the damaged sculptures, then donate them to interested local communities. He promised to keep us up-to-date on their various destinations.

Giant Metal Head of George Washington

Several pieces of sculpture were moved to a historic park behind a car wash just west of town. Onaway was once the Steering Wheel Capital -- the old factory grounds are maintained as a park.

Artist Tom Moran unveiled his Gerald R. Ford in 2012, a welded, plate steel depiction of the late President and Michigan native he created at his business, Moran Iron Works.
