Get a group together and visit this museum. It's totally worth the cost to see such an unbelievable number of items in any collection. The place is huge and well organized. Not only are the mechanics of the machines fascinating, but also the development of inventions to ease the labors of women. Lee Maxwell is still working! With over 1,800 machines in the museum, he has moved to making prototypes of old patents of machines -- because he has collected one of nearly every manufactured machine out there.
[Adventures Of Cluckleberry Hen, 08/17/2024]I have not visited, but I really want to. The museum only does tours by appointment, so my hope is that maybe if more people were interested they might open up for regular hours!
[Marcella Willis, 11/02/2018]The problem isn't a lack of interest; it's too much interest. Owner Lee Maxwell -- who is not a young man -- only opens his museum to tours by appointment (and charges $75) to slow down the traffic. His collection is impressive, over 1,500 machines, by far the largest in the world.
Lee Maxwell, a fanatical collector of ancient washing machines, has rebuilt most to "working condition" -- over 800 machines. Contact Lee at oldewash@aol.com to schedule an on-site tour.
