What a great place. There's a working lighthouse with some history. The Shipwreck Trail takes you right down to the shipwreck. The Lake was high, but you could still see the remnants.

At the 40 Mile Point Lighthouse you can walk on the beach to see the 134-foot-long starboard side remains of the S.S. Joseph S. Fay steamer, which sunk off 40 Mile Point in 1905. At the time of her launch in 1871, she was the largest ship built in Cleveland, Ohio. You can get right up to it to see the wooden planks and iron rods that held the ship together. It was pretty neat to see, and a little sad seeing it slowly being washed away and getting buried into the sand. Admission is free for both the shipwreck and the lighthouse.
