The Black Bear has a new home since 2005, and appears to be an awesome sight for all viewers. It's huge and very well done. Stop and see -- 1/2 block from Hwy 13 in Glidden.
[Skip Kempf, 02/16/2012]In Glidden, Wisconsin,a small town on Hwy 13 in northern Wisconsin, is the "World's Largest Black Bear." A huge black bear sits on top of the hill in a large glass case with a plaque describing the story behind it.
[Tyler Drummond, 04/13/2007]The record black bear has been completely refurbished and is housed in a new home across the side street from the BP/Amoco. It is awesome.
[bruce vanderhoof, 07/16/2005]Local businesses in Glidden got together and gave the bear -- known locally as "Mr. Bear" -- a complete makeover in early 2005.
I was confused with the original directions from your tips. They were backwards but we persevered. It's really mangy and funky looking. Apparently they used to drag it out for parades. The glass is so flyblown and dirty you can hardly see it. You can sort of make it out in the gloom.
[Gary Carr, 12/21/2002]There is a 665 pound stuffed black bear in a glass case in the town of Glidden, Wisconsin, "Black Bear Capital of the World." It is located one block west of State route 13. It became the world record at the time it was killed (November 23, 1963). A great Roadside America stop for those who are heading to Lake Superior as you can drive right up in front of the attraction and view it from your car.
[Jon Lachky, 05/07/2002]That date sounds awful familiar....
