Westford, Vermont: Upraised Fingers on Poles
in 2018 Ted Pelkey paid $4,000 for a giant wooden fist with an upraised middle finger, then sat it atop a tall pole on his roadside property and lit it at night. He was angry at his town government. By 2024 he had erected three hands with upraised fingers, expanding his message.

I drove a long way for this, and it was worth it! I'm excited to report that there has been an addition to the middle finger on a pole: now a middle finger weather vane is on display alongside the original!

[Sarah, 02/24/2019]The giant hand with extended middle finger was sculpted from wood and erected by Ted Pelkey, who's been in a battle with the town of Westford over his desire to develop his property. It hit the broader world and news in late 2018. The town can't make him remove the sculpture because it is designated as public art.
