First Cray-1 Supercomputer

This museum is great! You can get a tour from the curator. Lots of Cray computer history plus the history of Chippewa Falls. Well worth the $5 donation.

First Cray-1 Supercomputer

Sit on the "World's Most Expensive Loveseat" -- the Cray-1 Supercomputer. Featuring a central column surrounded by a padded, circular seat, the Cray-1 looked like no other computer. -- and performed like no other computer. It reigned as the world's fastest, from 1976 to 1982. This is machine serial no. 1, housed at the Museum of Industry and Technology.

Chippewa Falls was Seymour Cray's home town. If it's not out on loan, the museum displays his original 1976 test system from the Los Alamos Laboratory.
