I feel the very cool brick sculptures get overshadowed by all the Mayberry hype. The carvings sit in a brick wall and can be easily missed. I spent some time just looking at each one. The sculpting of brick and mortar is something I have not seen before. There is parking close by.

Eight sculptures have been designed to look like they were made from individual bricks. Six of the sculptures are of notable folks from Mount Airy, including Donna Fargo. The other two sculptures are of a generic whittler and a mill worker. The whittler reflects that the wall has been called "The Whittling Wall" for decades, since men would gather here and whittle while waiting for their wives to finish shopping. The wall takes up nearly a block of Oak Street going down from the intersection of Main Street.

The sculptures were made by Reidsville artist Brad Spencer. Note that the generic man whittles, while the generic mill worker woman labors at her sewing machine.
