Trinidad, Colorado: Art Cartopia Museum

Humbly bills itself as, "The greatest art car museum on Earth." Zany outgrowth of the town's annual art car parade, which Trinidad claims is second in size only to Houston's. Impressive, bizarre vehicles. Opened Nov. 2018.

Art Cartopia

This neo-Roadside attraction is like a giant cabinet of curiosities. The art cars are explosions of creativity -- and they can be driven. The docents (who call themselves "Splainers") were very friendly, as each vehicle has its own amazing story.

This was such a fun museum, with so much stuff to see! It is 100% free to tour, but tips are welcome to help with the upkeep. They have a very large selection of art cars, each with their own story and history displayed. An awesome family-friendly attraction.

A great stop, and we got a tour of the facility. Looking forward to coming back in September for the parade.

20+ amazing art cars, including a fire-breathing dragon car covered with glass beads. It's named "Cardegras."

So there I am, cruising down I-25 in the Space Force Starliner, on the way to the Atomic Museum, when I spot a giant inflatable gorilla holding a car outside of a place called Art Cartopia. I took the next exit and circled back to find myself among "my people."

The Museum is amazing and Rodney and Pat are enthusiastic docents and caretakers for a growing collection of over 25 art cars that you can not find anywhere else. You need to see this place to understand. I am coming back in September for their big weekend event and parade: Artocade!
