Delacroix, Louisiana: End of the World Sign (Gone)

End of a road was also the End of the World, according to a very visible sign. The reason: remoteness and hurricanes.

Directions:
From the French Quarter in New Orleans drive southeast on LA-46 for 23 miles. At the blinker light and stop sign, LA-46 turns into LA-300. Continue straight for another 7.5 miles until the road ends.
Status:
Gone

End of the World Sign

The sign is gone; only the frame remains.

End of the World sign.

End Of The World Sign

There is a unique sign at the end of Hwy LA 300.

[Todd, 05/09/2019]

It was perhaps unwise for the End of the World Marina to advertise itself on the sign that formerly stood here. Hurricane Katrina destroyed that sign, then hurricanes Rita, Ivan, and Gustav swallowed large chucks of Delacroix Island permanently. This is still a long way from anywhere else; the new sign seems more apocalyptic than geographic.
