Former Beatles singer/songwriter John Lennon lived in The Dakota apartments. He was shot and killed out front by a deranged fan on December 8, 1980. Across Central Park West, Strawberry Fields is a two acre landscaped area of Central Park dedicated to hope and peace in memory of John Lennon, but it is best known for the mosaic Imagine circle in the asphalt pathway. Some days it's decorated with flowers in the shape of a peace sign. This is designated as a Central Park Quiet Zone, but invariably you'll find someone there playing, singing, and butchering your favorite Beatles songs.
