Bo Pilgrim Monument - Big Giant Bo Pilgrim

Regarding the Bo Pilgrim Monument posting....the gentleman who stated Bo must think a lot of himself couldn't be more wrong. Bo did not build the monument -- it was built by associates as a tribute to a man who has given so much to our communities (Mt Pleasant and Pittsburg). His businesses employ around 40,000 people. He is very active in community events but never calls attention to himself or his contributions, in fact he prefers no attention at all. He gives freely and fairly, as long as the project is appropriate. He is a Christian. He does not have a rich man persona, although he is indeed a very rich man. He is approachable, kind and comfortable with his life.

Big Giant Bo Pilgrim Head

Pittsburg is the Chicken Capital of the World. Pilgrim's Pride, a Fortune 500 industry is located in little-bitty rural northeast Texas Pittsburg. Several years ago there was a restaurant in Pittsburg owned and operated as part of the Pilgrim's Pride corporate world that served primarily chicken (of course). The roof of the restaurant was a giant pilgrim hat (trademark of the founder of Pilgrim's Pride - Bo Pilgrim). When the restaurant closed a few years ago, the corporate biggies couldn't bear to destroy the giant hat. So they did what any corporate biggies would do -- they built a big giant bust beneath it and parked it in front of the fridge facility. There's also a life-size sculpture of Bo reading the Bible, seated on a bench beneath the big giant head...with a life-size sculpture of his favourite chicken Henrietta. In the very near future the corporate biggies may be erecting a bust of Mrs. Bo across the highway, but that may be just a rumour.

If you drive through Pittsburg, just on the edge of town...on the opposite side of the highway, you'll see Bo's palatial estate...fondly called Cluckingham Palace. You'll recognize the home as Bo's by the Pilgrim Hat on the gates!

Bo Pilgrim's head and hat

This is a 30' ft. tall head of the founder of Pilgrim's Pride Chicken, complete with pilgrim hat on top of his head. But that's not all. Underneath the head is a gazebo that features a bronze statue of Bo Pilgrim sitting on a bench with his pilgrim hat on one side of him and a chicken on the other side. If you visit at night, don't worry, it's lighted.
