Directions:: Call a day or two ahead to reserve a tour. On the day of the tour, check in by 10:30am at Newman's Bakery in downtown Bellville, 504 E. Main St. They'll give you directions. Tours take about two hours, and include a free lunch.

Newman's Castle

Be aware: castle has a lot of wasps flying around, and the day we were there ran out of lunches, and our group of seven had to go to the bakery in town to pick up our lunches, as did another family of 7, both of us had called ahead with reservations while others who arrived and bought tickets over the phone that day took the lunches that were on site. Just be aware the system has some flaws and be prepared to go with the flow.

Working Castle in the Middle of Nowhere

The castle features a moat, a massive, working 3,000-pound drawbridge with an accompanying portcullis, a chapel, five round corner turrets, a courtyard, and a central keep with a dramatic view of the surrounding lands. A perimeter wall surrounds the castle grounds, ensuring you are safe from oncoming marauders during your visit.

The owner of the castle lives there, so please respect his property. You have to RSVP for tours -- $20 per person, which includes lunch and pastries.
