Long Run Cemetery: Lincoln Connections

Abraham Lincoln's grandfather was killed here by Native Americans while his father watched, and is buried here. Also buried here is a great-uncle of President Harry S Truman. The cemetery also features a "Lincoln Tree" grown from a white oak acorn from a tree that sheltered future President Lincoln during an outdoor speech in 1840.

A weathered plaque from 1961, "You Stand on Historic Ground," provides extensive details of the importance of this tiny spot where Captain Abraham Lincoln was killed in a stealthy ambush while he was "laboring to open a farm."
