[vettechjen, 08/30/2019]Jim Varney was an actor best known for playing Ernest P. Worrell, a loveably stupid character who always wore a denim vest and a baseball cap. Ernest first appeared in local commercials, then national commercials, then he was given his own TV series ("Hey Vern, It's Ernest!"), and then nine feature "Ernest" films. His catchphrase, "KnowhutImean?," was familiar to a generation of middle-schoolers in the late 1980s. Ernest was such a popular character that he was revived for commercials, as a cartoon, five years after Varney died of lung cancer in 2000.
