Armadillo Farm Museum

The Apelt Armadillo Company opened in Comfort in 1894 and closed in 1971. They specialized in sewing baskets, lamps, and other curios made out of nine-banded armadillos (Buckhorn Saloon was one of their larger retailers). They were designated a Texas landmark in 2015.

The Armadillo Farm Museum in downtown Comfort has a large collection of Apelt Armadillo Company original armadillo relics. It also has an attached general store with a large collection of Texana, gas station, general store, advertising, and transportation artifacts.
