Visit the country's smallest National Monument! Christopher Park in Greenwich village was the site of the 1969 Stonewall riots that sparked the modern gay rights movement and is celebrated every year in June throughout the world. The park is located across the street from the landmarked Stonewall Inn bar.

The ghost-white sculptures in the park, originally titled "Gay Liberation," are by George Segal. They were commissioned in 1979, but weren't unveiled until 1992. At the time most residents, including gays, didn't like them.
