Spring Hill, Florida: Pepto-Bismol Pink Dinosaur

A pink dinosaur of uncertain species -- 22 feet high and 58 feet long -- dates from 1962. Built by taxidermist Jacob Foxbower and his brother to promote the family's Dinosaur Wildlife Museum (later Foxbower Wildlife Museum). The museum closed in 1998; the dino remains. It was restored in 2015. It has always been pink.

It's in the parking lot of a barber shop.

Pepto-Bismol Pink Dinosaur

This dinosaur is located on the edge of old Route 19, the one-time main road from Tampa to Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida, about 3-4 miles away. Search as I try, I can't find any recent reference to him anywhere, but remember reading something about him in the past, perhaps from your own site. He's very old. I vaguely remember reading he was built about 1927. As you can see he's been well taken care of and has a nice coat of pink paint. Up the road about a mile is another larger dinosaur harboring a 3 door auto repair shop. That fellow seems to get all the publicity -- maybe the brake specials in the Sunday paper are really good.

Previously reported, but the color photo is nice.

Two Dinosaurs

Two huge dinosaurs on US 19, just a mile or so south of Weeki Wachee Springs Waterpark (Intersection of Hwys. 19 & 50, near Spring Hill, Florida). Photo taken two years ago. My only regret is it's in black & white (that's the only film I had on me at the time), because this dinosaur is painted Pepto-Bismol Pink. Also located directly behind it is (or used to be) some kind of roadside-show featuring a two-headed rattlesnake. I'm not sure if it's still there. The other dinosaur, located about a mile south of the pink one. It's larger and gray, and houses an auto garage repair shop.
