Just inside the entrance to the Vermont Historical Society Museum is a "State Cabinet," a 19th century precursor to the modern museum. Sitting on one shelf is a tiny piece of fabric and paper inside a gilt frame. The handwriting on the paper reads as follows: "A piece of cloth stained with the late President A. Lincolns blood and which was placed between his head and the pillow. Presented by C.K.W. Strong Aug 29. 1865." Mr. Strong was a Treasury Department clerk at the time of Lincoln's assassination. He was also a souvenir hunter, if the article is genuine.
