In 1953 a replica was built of what was believed to be U.S. President Chester A. Arthur's birthplace. It was subsequently learned that both the design and location were incorrect (The replica house was modeled on, and built on the site of, a parsonage that the Arthur family later moved into). The actual location and look of the 21st President's birth home remains a mystery. A roadside historical marker, five miles from the bogus birthplace, admits that "the exact location is debated."
