An American flag made from old machine parts is visible on the wall of the former Beloit Iron Works. The Iron Works started business in 1858 making machine parts for all of the mills located along the Rock River. It closed in 1999 due to foreign competition and the whole complex was abandoned. The land was purchase by local investors in 2001 and has been transformed into offices, restaurants, apartments, and a YMCA. In honor of the building's industrial past, large photos of workers at the factory are on the wall of one of the buildings facing the alleyway, and a large American flag, made from old machine parts, is on the wall facing the Rock River.
