This is a small town museum at its finest. It is about life in the little wetland town, the pirate Jean Lafitte, and the local wildlife. As a special bonus, the museum has a number of animatronics, including Jean Lafitte interrupting the museum's multi-media show, a gator telling you stories, and woodland creatures that bob around as you read the exhibits. The desk employee, Jill, had family in the multi-media show, and there were even photos of her as a kid in the exhibits. She gave us great firsthand stories. Just up the street is another small museum with marionette dioramas depicting scenes from Jean Lafitte's life. A short drive from New Orleans, and well worth a visit!
