The Mermaid fountain is in the middle of a busy intersection. It appears that visiting the fountain is discouraged because there is a sign saying "entrance by permit only," and there aren't any crosswalks to get to it. She and her baby are rather lovely. The placement must have originally made sense because Park Avenue leads down to Seaside Park on Long Island Sound.
