World's Largest Flowerbox
Neosho has called itself "The Flowerbox City" since 1955. In 1981 the town wanted to make the World's Largest Flowerbox out of an old railroad dump car, but couldn't find one. The idea was forgotten for 20 years, but when the files were rediscovered in 2001 the plan was set in motion. The Kansas City Southern Railroad donated a retired car, 66 feet long. It was filled with 250 cubic yards of dirt by volunteers, and has been planted with flowers every year. "Neosho, Home of the World's Largest Flowerbox" was painted on its side. The flowerbox gradually fell into disrepair; it was restored in 2019.
