Car Bomb Spot
Orlando Letelier and a colleague, Ronni Moffitt, were killed by a car bomb on September 21, 1976. Letelier was the target; a former Chilean ambassador who was assassinated on orders of the then-current Chilean president. In the movie "Scarface," the car bomb scene and character who Tony Montana is scheduled to assassinate were based on the Letelier killing.
The memorial is located between the Romanian and Irish embassies, on the southeast arc of Sheridan Circle, at the spot where the car blew up.
