Civil War Recruiting Station, Seminary Ruins
Built in 1855 by Mexican War veteran James George to serve as his law office and bank, this building was converted into a Civil War recruiting station in 1861. Many of the recruits from the station served in Company C of the Second Minnesota Regiment. After the Civil War, it was used as a jail, office, storeroom, post office, and house. It is said to be the only Civil War recruiting station left standing in the state of Minnesota. Nearby, there's a Civil War memorial and ruins of a seminary from which students marched to enlist at the recruiting station.
