Glen Ullin, North Dakota: Crushed-Car Mary of the Prairie
Erected by farmer Kevin Opp, but sculpted by an anonymous artist in Mexico. Opp bought it in a parking lot, then set it atop one of the buttes he owns, facing the highway to the east. Visitors are welcome.

- Directions:
- I-94 exit 110. Drive north on ND-49 for one mile. You'll pass some metal grain silos on the left, and 37 St. on the right. Drive another half-mile, then pull off the highway on the left. You'll see a two-track road leading to Mary on the hilltop to the west. Either drive there, or park and walk. It's bumpy, and about a third of a mile.

Did the drive in my Toyota Camry and made it. But road in is difficult to see when you're headed north. Found it when we turned around and headed south. If I was younger I might have climbed up the hill to get closer.

The statue, made in Mexico from crushed cars, was purchased at a gas station by rancher Kevin Opp in 2015. He erected her on the highest butte on his property accessible from the highway and installed solar-powered lights. Many people, he told a reporter, mistake her for a tree.
