York, Maine: Confederate Yankee Statue
According to legend, a mix-up at the statue factory sent the Yankee statue to South Carolina and the Rebel statue to Maine. The frugal New Englanders put theirs up anyway -- CSA belt buckle be damned.

The story for the Confederate Yankee statue is that only the sculpture at the top was shipped to York by mistake. The base had already been created and was waiting for the sculpture to arrive. That can be seen by the "wrong" dedication on the base: "Erected in 1906 to Sons of York who served their country in Army and Navy for preservation of the Union."
Although a CSA emblem can be seen on the soldier's belt buckle, they kept the statue.
