Although Anne Jarvis in West Virginia is often credited with founding Mother's Day, she really just picked up what Mary Towles Sassen had started in Henderson, Kentucky. Sassen passed away before Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official. She is buried down the road in Fernwood Cemetery
