During his life, Hamlet Arthur Stephens was known for his hot beef and sausage sandwiches, sold at his Bunyon's restaurant in Cicero, Illinois. History, however, knows him as the man who brought a Muffler Man holding a Giant Hot Dog to Route 66. Stephens - who customers often mistakenly called "Mr. Bunyon" - closed the restaurant in 2003, and it was feared that he might sell the unique big weenie statue for scrap. Then the small town of Atlanta, Illinois, further west along the Mother Road, offered to take the Muffler Man and give him a permanent place of honor downtown.
Stephens liked the idea, and before he died on June 2, 2012, he'd seen his Hot Dog Guy become one of Route 66's most popular attractions.

Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia Muffler Men (and a Uniroyal Gal) as you've never seen them photographed before. No, I am not a religious nut, I'm a Jesus freak!
[Ken Fitton, 07/24/2020]Ken sent us an impressive 10-statue collage to show his progress on the Muffler Men Pilgrim's Trail. The Hot Dog Muffler Man was one. Ken's wardrobe is composed of perpetually replenished "Jesus Saves" t-shirts.
