Hot Dog Muffler Man (and other International Fiberglass Giants)

Indiana, Illinois, and West Virginia Muffler Men (and a Uniroyal Gal) as you've never seen them photographed before. No, I am not a religious nut, I'm a Jesus freak!

[Ken Fitton, 07/24/2020]

Ken sent us an impressive 10-statue collage to show his progress on the Muffler Men Pilgrim's Trail. The Hot Dog Muffler Man was one. Ken's wardrobe is composed of perpetually replenished "Jesus Saves" t-shirts.

Hot Dog Holding Muffler Man

The Muffler Man holding a hot dog is in great shape. The interpretive sign explains how he previously stood outside Bunyon's Restaurant in Cicero. The sign also describes the two other Muffler Men along Illinois Route 66 [The Gemini Giant in Wilmington and the Lauterbach Tire Man in Springfield]. If you look at the right angle, you have to wonder if he might be holding a baby Bunyan wrapped in a blanket instead of a hot dog!

He's in good shape in downtown Atlanta! Beside the Muffler Man there's an interesting mural of Route 66 and a broken "hit the hammer" game (where you hit and then the puck goes up, depending how strong you hit).

There's a Casey's General Store to get gas on the way to this statue if you need to justify the stop for your reluctant husband. There was even a little hot dog cart selling hot dogs right by him! Multitasking at its finest: Lunch...gas...you'd really be an irresponsible traveler to not stop here.

Bunyon's Statue

The hot dog-holding Muffler Man (also known as the "Bunyon") continues to stand guard over the town of Atlanta. The giant is in good condition, considering his less-than-great diet! There is a plaque next to the Bunyon that describes his history.
