Two Guns and Mountain Lions

This was mentioned in passing with Twin Arrows, AZ. Just off of Exit 230, on the abandoned stretch of old US 66, sits a puzzling arch that says Mountain Lions. Right near this is a shack that has the Route 66 sign and two guns painted on it. Behind the arch there are apparently building ruins that sit in various "islands" in the middle of this huge trench. There were some bridges stretching out to them, but we did not stick around long enough to investigate.

Two Guns Ruins

There's absolutely nothing at the Two Guns exit from I-40 except a closed down gas station, an abandoned campground, and the ruins of a sprawling tourist stop from the heyday of Route 66. There are about eight or so crumbling buildings, and judging by the number of buildings and the sheer size of the ruins, it looks like Two Guns was once the king daddy of roadside attractions. Once upon a time, you could stay overnight at the Canyon Lodge, visit the Apache Caves, buy souvenirs at the trading posts, and see coyotes, gila monsters, roadrunners, and mountains lions at the zoo. Sadly, all that is long gone. The ruins are visible from I-40, but are fenced off and inaccessible by car.
