Gator Motel

Motel still open; people changing letters on motel message board. There was a "For sale" sign close to the property -- not sure if it was on the property or not. It was my parents' 37th wedding anniversary, and when we saw the huge alligator, we thought it would be fun to take pics with it. We pulled in, posed with it, and had fun!

Jungleland Zoo closing down: Victim of bad economy or bad housekeeping?

One of Orlando, FL's most distinctive attractions, Jungleland Zoo, former home of Stinker the Monkey ("I will ring the bell if you show me food") and current home to the world's second largest alligator statue, has removed its animals from public view and, as of last week, was selling its gift shop stock at 50 percent off -- a clear sign that the attraction is going belly-up. JungleLand's owners argue they are a victim of the post 9/11 economy, but a local TV station reports that the Zoo is being investigated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S....

Giant Gator.

Jungleland Zoo Giant Gator

The giant gator in the parking lot of the JungleLand Zoo and Gator Motel in Kissimmee, Florida must have gotten a renovation lately. Now he's got a gaudy, wrecked jeep and a Steve Irwin-wannabe dangling from between his jaws. At night, the gator's eyes glow and his nostrils are illuminated with purple from the inside.

Alligatorland

Obviously y'all are on the ball regarding the "upgrading" of Alligatorland into JungleLand, the escaped lion, etc. Here's a little insider poop of a sort. I'm the artist who designed the JungleLand logo and their cartoon mascot, "Jake", while at my last job. Since day one JL has had ... unnannounced special events. Before the Nala breakout they were getting alligator wrestlers maimed left and right, but managed to keep it hushed up until a TV crew happened to be visiting as the ambulances pulled up.
