A roadside firefighter statue, with a parking lot and trailhead, memorialize 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot Firefighters who died on the trail in 2013, dramatized in the 2017 movie "Only The Brave."

Directions:: The parking lot, statue, and trailhead are next to westbound White Spar Hwy, roughly 2.5 miles west of Yarnell. The highway is split, so you have to be traveling west to reach the parking lot.

If you do the trail (it's extremely steep and intense, but worth it), be sure to not only bring lots of water, but lots of tissues. Theres a memorial to a hotshot every .25 miles or so. Not a dry eye around when you get to the memorial site either. [Jack Of All Trails, 08/13/2023]

The 7 mile (in and out) trailhead is at this location. It will take you to the actual location where this hotshot crew perished. Very strenuous hike in the beginning.

The firefighter statue, which is next to the highway parking lot, was dedicated in May 2018. Nineteen Granite Mountain Hotshot Firefighters died on June 30, 2013, fighting the nearby Yarnell Hill Fire. Visitors can hike to where they futilely hunkered down in emergency heat-resistant aluminum tents, a site now marked by metal cage boxes filled with rocks and decorated with offerings.
