Sorrowful Lincoln.

Sitting Lincoln

This was the first public commission of Topeka native Robert Merrell Gage, who began the Lincoln statue in 1916. It was cast at the Florentine Brother Foundry of Chicago. The large sculpture sits just southeast of the Kansas State Capitol.

[Gan Nunnally, 09/10/2020]

Sitting Lincolns from 100 years ago are far more grim than the smiling sit-on-a-bench-with-Abe statues made today.
