The exaggerated and colorful bronze statue of Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de La Fayette, the famous French aristocrat/major general in the American Revolutionary War and a key figure in the French Revolution, raises a toast to George Washington. The statue stands in front of The Golden Plough Tavern, connected to General Horatio Gate's House by a common kitchen.
It was here where Lafayette raised a glass to honor his commander, George Washington, affirming France's support of Gen. Washington and ending Conway's Cabal, a little-known plot to replace Washington as commander-in-chief of the Army with Gen. Gates during the American Revolution.
