Holbrook, Arizona: Mural of the Petrified Wood Pioneer
Frank Dobell was the visionary who, in 1936, first had the idea to sell chunks of petrified wood to tourists on Route 66. The faded, hand-painted mural has been on this wall for many years.

- Directions:
- I-40 exit 286. Drive south on Navajo Blvd to the stoplight intersection of Hopi Drive. Turn right. Drive two blocks. Turn right onto N. 2nd Ave. You'll see the mural on the right, on the outside wall of an auto repair shop.

The mural is painted on the side of an automotive repair shop. The mural looks freshly painted. Cars blocking it, almost passed by. Since there are other attractions on the same road to check off, stop by and do so -- but I wouldn't make a special trip to see mural.
