Columbus, Ohio: Wolf: Departed Denizens
Bronze wolf on a rock marks the mass grave of the city's pioneers, moved here when development overran their family cemeteries. They're "without marker or name" and anonymous, just like Columbus's long-dead wolves.

Green Lawn Cemetery recently unveiled a new monument named Departed Denizens. It's a memorial to the unknown bodies that were moved here from the Old North Cemetery when the city began to close and consolidate cemeteries in the late 1800s. The names of the bodies are not known and the monument is intended to acknowledge them. The memorial depicts a wolf, an animal that was quite common in the early days of Columbus, but was eventually displaced as the city expanded. The statue was sculpted by Ohio artist Mike Major.
