Coal Miner Statue
The coal miner statue was sculpted by well-known Ohio artist Alan Cottrill (who has an RA POI under Zanesville, Ohio). It was dedicated on Sept. 3, 2011. The statue depicts a miner leaning slightly backward, wielding a pick. This pose was chosen since early mine shafts were not very high and miners had to kneel and squat to do their work.
