Solomon Spaulding Grave
The Book of Mormon was originally written in Amity, Washington County, Pennsylvania, which in time will be regarded as the Mecca of Mormonism. Rev. Solomon Spaulding, who wrote the original fiction, is buried just behind the Presbyterian Church in the middle of the village. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and settled in this rural village with a view to banish ennui. Here he wrote a romance based upon fiction and, over time, the manuscript became the Golden Bible Book of Mormon.
