Wenona Coal Mine and Radar Station

According to the plaque at this site, the Wenona Coal Mine was 555 feet deep and produced over 3.5 million tons of coal during the 44 years it was mined. The mine shut down in 1927 and was later sealed.

The top of the hill was used as a radar station in the 1950s during the Cold War. The mine shaft and tipple ruins were reclaimed in 1998.
