Saucier, Mississippi: Abandoned WWII POW Camp

Not much left from its POW days, but there are abandoned ammunition bunkers from its postwar era as a military firing range. Beware of alligators.

Forest Rd 420E, Saucier, MS
Directions:
From US-49 in Saucier turn east at the stoplight onto Bethel Rd. Drive east nine miles. Turn left at the brown DeSoto National Forest sign onto Forest Rd 420E (a dirt road). Drive a half-mile. You'll see the bunkers on the right.

Abandoned WWII POW Camp

Former site of a prisoner of war camp, which held German and Italian POWs during World War II. The site was a Navy weapons range after the war and was then abandoned in the 1950s. The ammunition bunkers are still standing.
