Sikeston, Missouri: Lambert's, Home of the Throwed Rolls

Interactive eating with dinnertime roll-pelting. Waiters, with mobile carts of hot buns, are fairly precise as they hurl bread to you from across the dining room.

Lambert's Cafe - Home of Throwed Rolls

The food is delicious home-cooked country type. Yes, they literally throw the rolls and when you get them they are warm, and absolutely delicious. Employees circle the room offering sorghum and free dishes such as fried okra, tomatoes and macaroni, and many others.

Lambert's Cafe "Home of the Throwed Rolls"

Lambert's is a restaurant along Interstate 55 in Southeast Missouri. The restaurant is a lot of fun and is a place you must stop on a road trip. During your meal, they don't bring out rolls in a basket -- they throw them at you.

They also come around with various types of food they call "pass arounds" like fried Okra, black eyed peas and other things. Drinks are served in huge insulated cups and the walls are full of license plates and other memorabilia. All in all, we had a great time! They do not accept credit cards, so remember to bring cash or a check, but prices are very reasonable.

We stop at Lambert's whenever in the area. We witnessed some precision pitches in excess of 60 feet. Oddly, roll throwing hasn't caught on in other parts of the country. This photo shows a bronze statue immortalizing a great roll-thrower (Wayne reminds us this is Norman Lambert, the Ray Kroc of Throwed Rolls). Sort of like a heroic Marine lobbing a grenade, except he's wearing oven mitts and the payload is non-lethal...
